Equally Minded
We all have mental health, just like we all have physical health.
With one in four people experiencing a diagnosable mental health problem at some stage during their lives, many of us at Team Aldi are likely to be impacted at some point.
Our people are central to our ethos at Aldi; that’s why we’re sharing our commitment to:
- Continue to invest in improving how we support colleague wellbeing
- Promote colleagues’ mental wellness
- Ensuring all colleagues who need it, receive robust support to improve their mental wellbeing
Our Journey So Far...
We're proud of our wellbeing provision, which supports colleagues across 5 key areas of 'My Wellness' - one of which is mental wellness.
Our mental health strategy is underpinned by 3 layers of support for Team Aldi
1. A safe working environment
...through our health and safety policy and procedures, Health and Safety Managers, audits, risk assessments, supportive return to work procedures, and the Aldi management system which fosters a cooperative and positive working environment.
2. Guidance to help us care for ourselves and others
...by providing tools and platforms such as My Wellness, the Retail Trust Portal, a partnership with Mental Health UK, access to well being benefits for all colleagues, as well as the Wellbeing HELPBook and 'MyWellness for Leaders' for all Aldi Leaders.
3. Support for colleagues facing difficult times
...by providing free services such as the Retail Trust 24/7 helpline. Salary Finance offers a wealth of resources on a range of topics to all colleagues, and providing all Leaders with a full day 'Supporting Mental Wellness' training course.
We’re dedicated to building on this by doing even more to bring additional guidance and support to all our colleagues.
Our Priority Focus Areas
- Making mental wellbeing part of our everyday at Aldi
- Fostering our trusting, safe and open workplace culture to ensure it’s always okay to talk about your mental wellbeing
- Encouraging colleagues to feel comfortable to approach their Leaders for support
- Educating Leaders on internal support measures and how to appropriately signpost to a range of resources and guidance
- Ensuring everyone at Aldi enjoys a positive working environment where they’re supported and able to thrive
How We'll Get There...
We are delighted to partner with experts in the field to further enhance our MyWellness programme.
We will invest in our colleagues to...
Teach and promote an understanding that we all have mental health, through a range of practical tools, guides, articles and videos to help our teams look after their mental wellbeing, covering topics such as stress, anxiety and sleep.
Develop the confidence of our Leaders to support colleagues with their mental wellbeing, using supportive conversations, mutually agreed interventions, and suitable signposting through an updated full day training course, facilitated by the Retail Trust.
Help all colleagues, including new starters, better understand and manage their own mental wellbeing through an online ‘Introduction to Mental Health’ eLearning module for all of Team Aldi to complete.
We all have mental health, and we understand that no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to mental health. We each have a role to play in pledging to create the time and space to talk, challenge attitudes and drive this change.
How does this impact our colleagues?
If a member of Team Aldi opens up about their mental health at work, they can expect to feel listened to and supported by their Leader. The Leader may also be able to provide helpful resources or signpost colleagues to the additional support available. In order to provide the best possible support for Team Aldi, all of our Leaders:
Have a quick and easy access to a wide range of resources from their mobile phone via 'MyWellness for Leaders'.
Attend a full day 'Supporting Mental Wellness' training course to build their understanding of how they can best support their Team's wellbeing.
Are equipped with a Wellbeing HELPBook full of resources in real-life experiences such as bereavement, domestic abuse and baby loss.
Can submit a management referral for colleagues to receive short term counselling with the Retail Trust, if consent is provided.
Our ambition is for Aldi to be known as a team who understands and promotes good mental wellness, whilst confidently providing support and appropriately signposting anyone who is struggling with their mental wellbeing.
That’s why we will continue to invest in developing resources, maximising strategic partnerships with wellbeing experts and delivering ongoing training for Team Aldi.
