Training and Development

We know our biggest assets are our amazing colleagues. We’re committed to their individual development and progression through life and work. Here’s how we’re making sure every single person at Aldi has opportunities to learn, to grow and to feel like they belong.

It’s good to listen

Listen and Learn. It’s obvious really, but it’s really important not to forget to welcome our colleagues with open arms and ask them how you can improve.

It stands to reason that engaged colleagues are more productive so we work hard to create a culture of openness and transparency.

This is why in 2022 all colleagues were invited to complete our Employee Engagement Survey.  A fantastic 88% of colleagues across GB and IE took part, with an impressive 82% engagement score! We believe in creating a culture where colleagues feel valued, take pride in their voice and feel that their voices are heard.  This is reflected in some of our top scoring engagement questions, with 95% of colleagues agreeing that they are clear on the results expected of them in their job and 94% understanding how their own job contributes to achieving Aldi’s goals.

  • Colleague feedback
  • We listen to all our colleague’s feedback, and therefore ensure we’re focusing on key areas like training and personal development, ensuring all our colleagues know it’s good to talk.

People power

We are investing in our People more than ever! We have a dedicated HR Team of over 100 colleagues who look after all aspects of the employee lifecycle from Recruitment, to Training, Wellbeing, Health & Safety and Diversity and Inclusion.

During 2023, we held 863 training courses, training over 8,000 colleagues. Following the launch of our new learning system, Workday MyLearning, over 800 pieces of learning content is available for colleagues to complete on all devices. Workday Learning has enhanced all areas of training from colleague inductions to the performance review process, supporting colleagues with their personal development and career progression.

In 2023 we saw 534 colleagues across our Store Operations and Warehouse departments be nominated onto our dedicated career progression programme and an amazing 293 colleagues were promoted following the completion of their programme. People are always at the heart of our business and we understand just how important they are!
