Tuna Pasta Bake

A hearty bake combining a rich pasta sauce with chunky tuna.

Ingredients

  • 2x 145g Tins Tuna Chunks In Brine Drained
  • 2 Tbsp. Plain Flour
  • 1x Onion, Peeled And Chopped
  • 1x 500g Pack Penne Pasta
  • 500g Chopped Tomatoes
  • 2 Tbsp. Creamy Butter Salted
  • 500ml Semi Skimmed Milk
  • 360g Mild British Cheddar Cheese – Grated
  • 1 Tbsp. Olive Oil

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4.
  2. Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil.
  3. Season with salt and add the olive oil.
  4. Add the pasta and the onion.
  5. Cook the pasta as per package instructions, then drain.
  6. Mix the tuna with the pasta and onion.
  7. Add the chopped tomatoes and a pinch of black pepper. Stir to mix.
  8. Put the mixture into a large baking dish.
  9. Make the cheese sauce by melting the butter in a saucepan.
  10. Add the flour and stir well. Gradually add the milk and whisk until there are no lumps.
  11. On a gentle heat, bring the sauce to a boil, stirring all the time until thick.
  12. Add 260g of the grated cheese, season with salt and pepper, and stir until the cheese has melted. Then pour the cheese sauce over the pasta.
  13. Sprinkle over the remaining cheese. Bake in a preheated oven for 40 minutes.
