Ingredients

  • 500g strong white flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 x 7g sachets fast-action dried yeast
  • 2 tsp caster sugar 300ml warm water (not too hot)
  • Vegetable oil, for greasing

Method

  1. Sift the flour and salt into a mixing bowl, then stir in the sugar and yeast.
  2. Gradually add 300ml of warm water and mix well to form a dough. Dust some flour onto a clean work surface and tip the dough out onto it ready for kneading.
  3. Knead the dough for around 10 mins until it turns soft and smooth to touch. You can add a little more flour here if the dough is too sticky, but don’t get carried away!
  4. Divide the dough into 8 pieces and roll them into balls, before placing them onto an oiled baking tray.
  5. Cover the dough with a damp tea towel and leave to prove for 45 mins (or until they have doubled in size) in a warm place.
  6. Now preheat the oven to gas 7, 220°C, fan 200°C. Bake the rolls for 20 mins until golden brown.
  7. Best enjoyed fresh and still warm.
